I had to read the Prose Edda for my viking history class. It was atrociously boring.

I can't believe there exists a book where nothing happens.

The book consisted of stories with nothing actually going on, or consisted of them naming off people whose was the son of so-and-so, who was the son of so-and-so, etc.... all with random songs.

You'll have passages like:

Chapter 3
Odin woke up one morning, he looked out the window and realized it was raining, he scratchith his rear thrice and proceeded to go back to bed.

Oh what a glorious day
Odin is our lord
Greatest Aeser of all
He scratch his rear
and slept at night

Chapter 4

You have to look further into the eddas. they are not everyday reading.
I wouldn't actually recommend reading the eddas until you'd read some sagas and understand/have an interest in the skaldic writings of the vikings/icelandics.

I would also recommend reading the Poetic Edda. But then you have to see beyond what is written on the page. They were very clever like that.

I had to read a bunch Sagas and the Prose Edda for my Norse history class, which I'm in my 4th year of studying history. We had to heavily analyze these within historical context, and do a source analysis/criticism of these, so I did more than just read these on a Saturday afternoon for fun.

I really found nothing in the Prose Edda, and rarely much of anything in the sagas outside of "there was much slaughter" every paragraph with the sagas entailing viking raids.
